A four-hour session, that introduces you to the pleasure of creating ceramics. WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT? This is a four-hour ceramic sampler from The Clay Garden. Everything they create is a vision. Think ‘Elle deco’ and you’d be on the right track. So, who better to teach you the basics of the wheel, as you throw, coil and get to grips with a touch of slab building. After that - well you’re hooked. The atmosphere is energetic and enthusiastic, in the company of others just like you. There is a good dose of music, and tea and cookies to feed the soul as you mould the clay. MEET YOUR POTTER Central Saint Martins graduate, Yana Gafurova, previously worked in the luxury fashion sector, running a small couture label with her mother, amongst other projects (VI for luxury label N.E Tiger in Beijing and managing Branding for Cynthia Conran), always having her own ceramics studio so she could relax by sculpting during down times. After burning out during an intense project with her mothers’ label, the desire to step back from fashion and go deeper into ceramics surfaced - a tactile discipline which involves the whole body and transforms the mind. She began working for The Kiln Rooms, amongst other ceramic studios where she built on her ceramics knowledge from Saint Martins and noticed a gap in the market for a lack of West London ceramic membership spaces. The Clay Garden was opened in response to pottery studios being mostly about utility and not enough about inspiration and honing the creativity of the artist by providing them with a beautiful space where they can feel at home. THE ALL IMPORTANT DETAILS The studio is light and airy and just minutes away from Hammersmith tube. Yes, fabulous things do happen west of Shoreditch. Class sizes are kept to 10 people and all the pieces you make on the day will be fired and glazed and ready to collect within 3 weeks of the session. WHEN Sampler sessions are running once a month (usually on the last Sunday of every month).
